Who should take this course?

To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

What will you learn?

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development ( online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

How our courses work.

At Indepth Scuba, we take the time to make sure you are getting the most out of your dive course, no shortcuts or short-courses.

Training Day 1

  • Theory session – learn all theory and safety aspects of scuba diving, and with our instructors on-board to answer all of your questions

Training Day 2

  • Pool training – Learning to dive in confined water is just the beginning of your underwater adventure.  And in the comfort of a heated pool.

Training Day 3

  • Open water dives 1-3.  Now its time to really get wet.  Ocean diving is what you have been training for, and armed with all the skills you have learnt in the pool you are almost there!

Training Day 4

  • Open water dives 4-5.  Putting your skills into action, learning how to dive safetly and with confidence. It's so easy, you just need to book onto the course!

What you need to provide.

  • Your own transport to and from Canberra
  • Food and drink
  • Bed linen ( sleeping bag and pillow ) for the Open water dive weekend at the coast
  • Your own mask, snorkel, boots and gloves – we have some great deals in-store, you get a great discount and it is so much nicer to have your own gear

Do I need a dive medical to learn to dive?

Scuba diving can put certain pressures on the body, and you need to be relatively fit and healthy to learn to dive. When you sign up on course, we will email you a 'Medical Statement' to complete, this will dictate whether or not you require a dive medical.  If you do, we have our own dive Doctor who will be there at the start of your course to complete the dive medical with you.  The cost is $110.00.

Are there any prerequisits?

  • You must be atleast 12 years of age to learn to dive.  Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or adult over the age of 18
  • You must be able to swim atleast 200 metres, any stroke. 
  • You must be able to float or tread water for 10 minutes
